A Ramble through the Absaroka-Beartooth

A few weekends ago, I went hiking up Sioux Charlie trail in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, and frankly, you’re lucky that I decided to come back to work. You’re also lucky that I only posted 11 pictures, because I took exactly ten times that many.

Swirling Water

This is the Stillwater River. Presumably whoever named wasn’t this far in the mountains, or they would have named it Roaring Whitewater of Sudden Death River. Or something. We were hiking with a chocolate lab, and we had to keep her on a leash because she really, really, really wanted to play in the water.

Sunlit trail“The road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began…”

LarkspurConsensus of our Facebook community is that this is a Little Larkspur (Delphinium bicolor) it is toxic to cattle, but eaten by deer and elk.

Trail on the Edge“Now far ahead the road has gone, and I must follow if I can…”

Fishing HoleAgain, we had to forcibly restrain the lab. She thought this fisherman was throwing things in the water for her to fetch.

Wildflower Trail“Pursuing it with eager feet, until it joins some larger way…”

Wildflower Spotlight

Look at these flowers! They are pretty, and choose to remain anonymous.

Wild RoseSources tell us that this flower is a wild rose.

Two Trails“Where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say. The road goes ever on and on.”
